The law as the limit of no longer acceptable uses of animals
As president of the project Global Animal Law (GAL) I withhold my private opinion on whether animal use is acceptable or not. Personally I would rather draw very narrow limits. With GAL we want to contribute to alleviate animal suffering by using the law, an often undervalued means, adapted to local concepts and circumstances. The «utopian» vision of GAL, a world without almost any use and abuse of animals, may function as a beacon in the setting and enforcement of law. This process is to be pursued step by step on local, national and international levels with respect to the state of legislation and the prevailing people’s opinions.
What about plants? If plants were sentient and had personalities, we ought to make the frutarian approach a basic principle of our diet: to eat only discarded parts of plants like fruits, nuts, and seeds. More…
